By: Boryanabooks/Music She sings her songs of beauty, sarcasm and soul. She has a singular style of music, art, and poetry that is drenched with sweet emotion and symphonic rhyme. Influenced by masters of songwriting such as The Beatles, Neil Young, and Bob Dylan she has her own edgy folk rock style. Her musical tastes and influences run a full gamut of styles from blues to folk to rock to jazz to classical and shades in between. In her formative years, she performed with the band Lapis, a group of songwriters playing original music in the L.A. club scene. More recently she hailed from The Porch Girls, where she steeped in harmony and grew a fondness for Americana folk songs. She continues to sing backup vocals with the Jim Crawford Band performing blues rock originals and covers for parties and benefit shows. With the release of Hyla’s first solo record, Sticky Yellow Monkey Flowers, she is reinventing herself as an original music artist with a band lineup of eclectic and multi-talented friends and musicians. From rock 'n roll to thought provoking ballads, the record carries the listener through a spectrum of emotions with catchy melodies, sweet harmony and poetic lyrics.
