Integrated response to domestic violence prevention to be address at national Summit

 
Oct. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- Figures from the Prime Minister’s office state that one in three Australian women have experienced physical violence and almost one in five have experienced sexual violence since the age of fifteen. An integrated response that reinforces strong partnerships between police, case workers, community groups and policy makers is crucial to preventing domestic abuse.

The National Domestic Violence Summit, to be held on the 8-9 December at the Wesley Conference Centre, Sydney, will showcase the initiatives, research and resourceful partnerships that are helping make a positive change. The event features thirty speakers from government, police, academia, not-for-profits,

Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash, Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Women will open proceedings with a presentation on The National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010-2022.

Australia’s role and its ability to learn from global successes will be the subject of discussions led by Paul Linossier, CEO, Foundation to Prevent Violence Against Women and their Children and Claire Mallinson, Director, Amnesty International Australia.

Libby Davies, CEO, White Ribbon Australia, will look at driving social change in schools and the workplace.

Day two’s opening addresses will be from the police service from Assistant Commissioner Mark Murdoch APM, Commander, Corporate Sponsor for Domestic Violence, New South Wales Police Force and Sergeant Ash Dubbelman, Domestic Violence Coordinator, Gold Coast District, Queensland Police Force.

Tina Karas, Conference Director from organisers Informa says “In recent years, domestic violence has emerged as a mainstream issue in Australia. The threads of this issue have been highlighted in previous forums held on homelessness, juvenile justice and community work and in light of renewed policy and legislative reviews, we thought the time was right to bring these threads together and explore solutions for an integrated response to combating domestic violence.
