The Opening Event for the Savannah Food & Wine Event Raises $20,000 for Scholarship Program

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Oct. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- Sampling a wide array of exquisite culinary delights was the perfect way to preview the Savannah Food & Wine Festival. But raising $20,000 for the Patrick Ansley Williams Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships for the Savannah Technical College Culinary Arts Program, was the real pièce de résistance.

With a couple of world-class Jaguar sports cars on display in front of Ekburg Auditorium, courtesy of sponsor Jaguar Hilton Head, the Bistro Savoir Interactif provided guests with an wonderful gourmet experience. Students from the Culinary Arts program manned 5 stations each laid out with appetizers, seafood, a main course, desserts, and cheese. The September 19 two hour preview event was presided over by American Culinary Federation 2014 Chef Educator of the Year, Chef Jean Vendeville.

Those in attendance were treated to demonstrations and of course fine food prepared by the program’s talented students. Guests were treated to many special dishes such as rabbit terrine appetizer, kedgeree with coconut shrimp and mango chutney, and a mini tournedo Rossini. The student chefs handed out recipes to those who were interested in preparing these dishes at home.

A raffle with gourmet prizes such as artisan breads and chocolates prepared by the culinary students, was also featured at each station. One of the most popular events of the evening was an auction for a dinner for ten prepared by Chef Vendeville himself.

All proceeds from the Bistro Savoir Interactif event went directly to the Patrick Ansley Williams Scholarship Fund, which awards five scholarships every year to help cover the costs of tuition, fees, books, and other supplies.

The Savannah Food & Wine Festival will take place November 10-16 in venues throughout the city of Savannah.
