Ad Man Comes Up With 100 of the Worst Ideas in History

Michael N. Smith, founder and creative director of Beard Boy Productions, a 20-year-old advertising production company based in Southern California, comes up with ideas for all kinds of clients, all over the country, all day long.

TUSTIN, Calif. - Oct. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- So he has a great deal of empathy for what it takes to come up with a good idea -- and a great deal of sympathy for what happens when those seemingly good ideas go terribly wrong.

That in mind, it should come as no surprise that Smith's first book is titled "100 of the Worst Ideas in History," published by Sourcebooks and available now from Barnes and Noble and Amazon.com.

"We think of it as humanity's thundering brainstorms turned blundering brain farts," Smith said. The book is a celebration of mankind's historical, often hysterical missteps that have started wars, sunk countries, wrecked companies, scuttled careers, lost millions and even endangered the Earth.

In this read, you will discover:
• How a confused chauffeur helped start World War I
• Who turned down the greatest product placement opportunity in Hollywood history
• How a Chicago White Sox game helped hasten the demise of disco
• The toad that nearly ate Australia
• The most dangerous children's game ever invented
• And so much more (of so much less!)

Spanning politics, pop culture, fashion, sports, technology, and more, this irreverent and witty book is packed with fun photos and sidebars, tracing the astonishing impacts our faux pas and foibles still have on us today.

Over the years, Smith’s work has garnered numerous honors, including CLIO, ADDY, EFFIE, New York Art Directors and TELLY awards. He also created the popular cult comic book character "Pete the P.O.'d Postal Worker," as well as a children's book parody by the same name. He's penned features for National Lampoon, Men's Exercise, Orange County Register, Los Angeles Times, Buffalo News, St. Petersburg Times and San Antonio Express News. Mike kids history, but always with love. He lives with his wife, Debora, and son, Andrew, in California.
