Why is Pepsi interested in Amazon?

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Oct. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- After a decade of declining sales, PepsiCo will offer a product named Pepsi True for the first time exclusively on Amazon.com, in an attempt by the company to expand its footprint in electronic commerce.


It is a naturally sweetened drink called Pepsi True, available in mid-October through Amazon and offered in boxes of 24 cans.

According to the company the drink will not be available in physical stores, but it also announced future plans to sell it in traditional stores.

Introducing True through Amazon, Pepsi believes it can better assess the demand and gain perspective on what people buy before a wider launch.


Industry watchers say the initiative illustrates how the field of food and drink is expanding in non-traditional distribution channels, such as electronic commerce, in an attempt to grow.
