NEW YORK - Oct. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- Addressing donors at a fundraising event in early September, founder of Project Bright for Senegal Ousmane Tournaka emphasized the need for innovative tactics that would improve education in Senegal. Despite government and international efforts, students continue to perform poorly in many standardized tests. Across Senegal, approximately 690 second-grade students were examined for proficiency in literacy. Twenty percent of students failed to read a single word correctly, averaging only twenty- two words a minute. Only five students were able to read and answer comprehension questions about the test material. Many educators believe, a severe deficiency of education in African homes has contributed to lower literacy levels in children. Specifically, there is insufficient interaction between parents and developing children due to education deprived parents.

Ousmane Tounkara, a native of Senegal, has dedicated his resources to transforming education beyond the four walls of classrooms. With Project Bright for Senegal, Ousmane is promoting a collaborative effort aimed at after school learning. The goal is to present students with the capabilities to improve their education at home. Many parents are unable to help their child’s learning development due to a lack of their schooling. This factor is a vital component to improving educational development. The learning experience a student receives at home will greatly affect their ability to excel at school. This issue has lead Mr. Tournkara to introduce educational improvement in the homes of Senegalese students.

To help improve education, Project Bright for Senegal will provide many disadvantage students with educational tablets. These tablets will contain proven learning material that grants students the opportunity to make vast academic improvements in literacy and mathematics.

The goal is to allow students to learn at their own pace in the comfort of their own home. The tablets will serve as an intimate "after school program", catering to each student's specific academic need. Project Bright for Senegal will initially target students in uptown Dakar and ultimately spread throughout multiple Senegalese cities. Mr. Tounkara's execution of this project will increase awareness of the need for at home education, improve academic positioning for students, and prolifically redefine education in Senegal.
