Tim Timmerman named BSA’s 2014 Distinguished Citizen

AUSTIN, Texas - Oct. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- AUSTIN – A leader’s character is revealed while dealing with the most serious of circumstances. As Chairman of the Lower Colorado River Authority Board of Directors, Tim Timmerman has demonstrated the ability to think strategically and act ethically while helping expand and protect the water supply for more than a million Central Texas families and businesses. In recognition of this and more, the Capitol Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, is proud to name Timmerman as the recipient of the 2014 Distinguished Citizen Award.

Timmerman will be honored at the Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner and Gala on October 14, 2014 at the Hilton Austin Hotel. Scouting is honored to have Texas Lottery Commission Chair and Capitol Area Council Executive Board member Winston Krause serving as the event’s Chairman. Randall Riley, Nyle Maxwell, Bobby Jenkins, Dale Laine, Barry Barksdale, Marietta Scott, Ryan Runkle, Roberto De Hoyo, Paul Bury, Tom Martine, Joe Beal, James Dyess, Sean Breen, Raymond Gray, Terry Hall and Rob Golding are serving as Vice Chairs.

The Capitol Area Council's Distinguished Citizen Award is presented annually to individuals who share Scouting’s belief in leadership, determination and values, and have contributed significantly to the growth and vitality of Central Texas. Past recipients include Texas A&M System Chancellor John Sharp, University of Texas President Bill Powers, Governor Rick Perry, JP Morgan Chase Austin Chairman Joe Holt, Texas Disposal Systems co-founders Bob and Jim Gregory, former University of Texas Men’s Athletics Director DeLoss Dodds, Greater Austin Economic Development Corporation Chair Gary Farmer, Philanthropists Pete and Tomi Winstead, and former Austin Mayor Gus Garcia.

Funds from the Award dinner and gala benefit more than 600 Scouting programs across 15 Central Texas counties serving youth regardless of race, faith, ability or economic level.

About Tim Timmerman

Timothy T. Timmerman of Austin is a real estate investor/developer and owns Commerce Texas Properties, Inc. He developed the Star Ranch Community and Golf Course north of Austin. He is a certified public accountant and holds a Texas real estate broker’s license. He is a member of the board of directors and chairman of the Audit Committee for Citizens, Inc., a New York Stock Exchange company. He serves on the board of the Round Rock Community Foundation and also serves on the board of St. David's Medical Center in Round Rock. He is a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church of Austin. Timmerman received a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin. Governor Rick Perry appointed him to the LCRA Board of Directors in February 2008 and named him LCRA Board Chair in January 2011. He was reappointed in 2013 for a term that expires in 2019.

About the Lower Colorado River Authority

The Lower Colorado River Authority provides a multitude of vital services to Texans, from providing public power to managing the lower Colorado River to building and operating transmission lines across the state. LCRA is the primary wholesale provider of electricity in Central Texas. LCRA Transmission Services Corporation is the second-largest transmission services organization in the state.
