CAPITAL HEIGHTS, Md. - Oct. 1, 2014 - PRLog -- Prince George’s County, Maryland (October 1, 2014) –My Girlfriend’s House is excited to launch the 5th Annual Purse Strings for My Girlfriend’s Drive. The annual fundraiser seeks the support of the community and corporate sponsors to collect 800 purses and fill them with 15 full-sized personal care items to donate to women and teen girls living in homeless shelters and group homes.

Now in its 5th year, the Purse Strings Program has played a major role in the empowerment of at-risk teen girls and women, impacting over 5,000 women in the DC, MD and VA region. The program has addressed a major issue in the community: homelessness and health education.

“This drive continues to grow more and more each year, and that is due to the overwhelming amount of support and donations we receive”, Founder and Executive Director Veronica Eyenga shared. “Each year we’ve surpassed our goal of 800 purses and I’m confident that we will continue that growing trend. It’s a community effort!”

The Purse Strings Drive is one of three initiatives under the organization’s Purse Strings for My Girlfriends Program, a year-long effort dedicated to empowering an impoverished community of teenage girls and women to help enhance their self-esteem and confidence. The organization spent the past 2 months looking for companies and individuals that were willing to pledge products. While they have received a great response from the community, there are still a number of products needed to fill each purse. “The purses we receive are amazing! They give the women something to call their own. They become a valuable asset to their everyday attire”, Eyenga says. “But these products are really what make a difference. They help the women and teens with essential health care needs, and that is so important! We are still accepting pledges for products until the 15th of October for anyone who is willing to assist in our efforts.””

The Purse Drive launches October 1st and will last until the 31st of the month. Donations may be dropped off or mailed to the organization’s Clubhouse located at 9244 East Hampton Drive, Suite 621 in Capitol Heights, MD. Additional drop-off locations can be found on the organization’s website.
