Follow on Google News | New player gives BT a kicking over ‘football tax’TenTel to halve prices to poach fed-up customers from telecoms giant
By: Tentel TenTel is slashing its prices in October in support of customers who are angry over BT’s decision to impose a 6% increase on its home phone and broadband bills. Many customers believe they’re paying the price for the company’s decision to pay £738m for the rights to screen 38 live Premiership football matches over three years and £879m for Champions League matches. They see the rise, which is nearly four times the rate of inflation, as penalising ordinary customers, over 2.6million of whom don’t subscribe to BT’s football offering. In response to BT’s price hike, which comes into force on December 1, TenTel is introducing three new money saving offers. From the October 1, TenTel is halving the price of its Hello World deal, reducing line rental to £7.99 and meaning disgruntled customers can have a telephone and broadband package for as low as £9.98-a-month. For customers that prefer to make a one off annual payment, there is the TenTel Advance bundle which includes line rental, unlimited broadband and free week-end calls for £199 for 12 months. A number of charities have condemned the BT move and that the elderly, many of whom regard their home phones as a lifeline, will be the hardest hit. So to support the elderly and those that just require to make phone calls, the TenTel Hello Saver deal includes line rental and unlimited landline calls, for £17.99-a-month. Everyone who subscribes to TenTel during the month of October will have these prices locked in for a year. Robert McKechnie, managing director of Scottish-based TenTel said some of the Big four telecoms providers, including TalkTalk and BT have hiked their prices and he hoped many thousands of customers would switch to TenTel’s cheaper deals. “BT is driven by the battle for football ratings which is unfair on its millions of customers who don’t watch football. It’s unfair on pensioners and it’s unfair on low income earners. “We know that many of their customers feel like they’re being ripped off. We believe our job is to provide an excellent service to our customers at the lowest possible prices and we don’t have the distraction of supporting other things or lavish marketing expenses with our customers’ hard earned money.” TenTel offers a unique no enforced tie-in or hidden extras service. It boasts the most competitive prices in the market with only a 30-day notice period for customers who want to cancel their service or switch providers. End
