Follow on Google News | Personal Training Enters New Dimension with Addition of Self-Defense TechniquesConcerns about Random Assaults in Schools and On Neighborhood Streets Prompting More Requests for Self-Defense Training
By: Earnest Hart, Jr. “I am receiving more requests to include self-defense techniques in personal safety classes, seminars and private sessions that I conduct; the explanation is always the same,” says Hart, a veteran personal trainer and safety instructor with a black belt in 15 different martial arts. “People keep telling me: ‘There seems to be more crime and violent attacks on people than ever before.’ “I have worked with people of all ages throughout my career, and I have never heard so many concerns about personal safety and self-defense from so many people as I do today, says Hart. He adds, “It is obvious to me that we are living in a society where people and families are very concerned.” Hart has added effective self-defense components into the personal training sessions that he provides for individuals and families, and in his seminars. “This aspect of the training is very well received,” he says. Hart was bullied by tough guys as a kid in St. Louis housing projects until he mastered boxing, judo and jujitsu and became a world-class kickboxing champion. Today he is a personal security consultant whose clients have included baseball great Ozzie Smith, the St. Louis Rams football team, and actors George Clooney, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Willem Dafoe. Hart has conducted personal safety seminars for schools, corporations, senior citizens and travelers, and private sessions in peoples’ homes, for years. His milestone book “How to Vacation and Travel Safely and Come Back Alive” is available on Amazon.com. Hart recently developed a new seminar called “Campus Safety in the 21st Century” that is inspired by the Campus Accountability and Safety Act that Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) introduced in July 2014. The new seminar is designed to help high school and college students, including young women, prepare for dating and college life in dormitories, apartments and other scenarios they may encounter, including potential sexual assault and robbery. It covers virtually every type of safety consideration that students may encounter on college campuses. In part, these include: · Developing Safety Awareness Skills · Reading Body Language · Trusting Your Instincts · Making a Threat Assessment · Developing Basic Self Defense Skills · Planning & Practice for Crisis Situations · How to be “Street Smart” during Spring Break · Social Media Do’s & Don’ts · Online Dating Pros & Cons · Staying Safe When Traveling · Identity theft & Other Scams “An important aspect of my work is to teach people how to safely remove themselves from dangerous scenarios when they feel vulnerable or threatened, yet be prepared to defend themselves confidently if they are unexpectedly harassed.” “I teach self-reliance, self-respect and how to recognize and react to potentially threatening human behavior that includes sexual violence and abusive threats in their many forms,” says Hart.
