MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - Oct. 1, 2014 - PRLog -- Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) connects Communities, Cultures and Continents. So, it’s natural that Uber, a leader and innovator responsible for evolving the way the world moves has partnered with SVAFF 2014. By seamlessly connecting riders to drivers through their apps, Uber makes cities more accessible, opening up more possibilities for riders.

Starting on Thursday, October 16th through Monday, October 20th, SVAFF participants will have access to the convenience and reliability of Uber. And to kick off our film festival weekend, FREE ride fares are available to international filmmakers and VIP’s who will be the first to take a spin in an uberX around the host city of Mountain View.

Wherever they are, it's as simple as opening the app, tapping a button, and getting picked up in minutes.

Presented by Oriki Theater, in partnership with Community School of Music and Arts, the Silicon Valley African Film Festival is the only film festival in California that is exclusively focused on films made by African filmmakers and, crucially, provides audiences with exquisite lenses to the real Africa. Aptly themed “Africa through the African lens”, the festival’s mission, thus, aims at promoting finer understanding and greater appreciation of Africa’s rich heritage through moving images.

The Festival celebrates its fifth anniversary and presents its finest and fullest event yet with a brilliant line-up of 25 films from 15 African countries, all sharing the true stories, hopes and dreams of Africa. The festival has become a destination event in Silicon Valley that draws an international following of distinguished transcontinental visitors, Silicon Valley high tech executives, cinema buffs, academics, civic officials and diverse community supporters. We have also built an impressive African film library that features a rare collection of short and feature length narrative and documentary films on a vast array of subjects. Our school outreach program "Africa in the Classroom Film Series" provides elementary, middle and high schools access to our library for curriculum related films.

2014 Festival highlights include: red carpet opening night reception, parade of flags of the countries in the festival, libation ceremony, live performances by Stanford University's award winning a cappella group Talisman, Oriki drumming ensemble, Tezkatlipoka Aztec dance group, film screenings, post-screening dialogue with filmmakers in attendance, a visual arts exhibit by young Nigerian Canadian artist Kosi Nnebe, theme parties, African marketplace, food, closing and awards ceremony. Our centerpiece event on Saturday, October 18 is the “African Women in Technology" forum. Presented in partnership with African Diaspora Network and Institute of International Education - TechWomen, the forum will feature an illuminating conversation with Africa's next generation of women leaders in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, visiting from 16 African countries.
