"Effective communication between "IT"and "business" are the key success factors of IT projects"

Oct. 1, 2014 - PRLog -- User involvement, management support, as well as a clear statement of the requirements to the future product are the three key factors that lead IT projects to success. This formula of success has been bred on September 25 in Kyiv by IT-experts at the business lunch "Fight for budget: how insurance companies can work with reduced IT budget?" for representatives of the largest insurance companies in Ukraine.

According to the report of The Standish Group in 2013, 61% of all IT projects analyzed in a variety of companies and industries have been unsuccessful. Out of these, approximately every fourth project was stopped prematurely or has been completed, but the result has never been used. The rest of unsuccessful IT projects (about 44%), as a rule, were not completed in the required time, went beyond the allocated budget or delivered with the functionality, which differed from the planned.

The most common causes of such negative indicators of IT projects are:

-        Mismatch of investment in IT projects with business objectives of the company;

-        Unexamined business cases for IT investments;

-        Poor management of projects.

Given the millions of dollars of investment in IT projects, of which more than half will fail in the end, the loss of business acquire enormous volumes.

IT-experts believe that turbulent time and budget cuts - the best time to use new methodologies for the implementation of IT projects.

"The use of agile methodologies for project development allows us to achieve the success of IT projects with a limited budget and in a short time", - said Anatoly Kot, Projects and Program Manager at Softengi. "For example, 90% of the projects implemented with Scrum methodology were successful. Thanks to agile, the customer may at any time stop the project when it reaches its budget or time limit, and he will receive already functioning system."
