Jefferson Park in Irving Texas to be new home to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Plaza

IRVING, Texas - Oct. 1, 2014 - PRLog -- The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Park dedication is being held Thursday October 2nd , 2014  at 4:30 P.M. at Thomas Jefferson Park 1201 Hidden Ridge, just off MacArthur Blvd in Irving. It is the culmination of a four year effort to recognize the efforts of Mahatma Gandhi and other significant leaders in the world for Peace. The memorial plaza is a collaboration between the India Association of North Texas, Indian American Friendship Council and The City of Irving.

Of the 17 Gandhi statues that are erected in the United States, this project is the largest and most elegant. The 7-foot tall and 30-inch wide bronze statue of Gandhi, which was cast in Andhra Pradesh, India and installed on a 6-foot tall pedestal, features a 40-fooot diameter platform, solar panels and LED lighting. The monument is surrounded by an 8-foot elegant granite and Austin stone wall featuring inscriptions of Gandhi’s memorable words, as well as quotations from Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela and Albert Einstein, President Barack Obama on peace.

The City of Irving designated Thomas Jefferson Park to be the location of memorial project which is nearly 18 acres of lush lawns, a fountained lake and trees located in the northern heart of the city in Las Colinas. Attending the dedication to represent the Gandhi, Mandela, Einstein and King families. Mr. Ndaba Mandela, Grandson of Mr. Nelson Mandela (South Africa), Rev. Jerome G. LeDoux, SVD, representing Martin Luther King Jr.'s family (Forth Worth, TX), Anita Zusman Eddy, Executive Director Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, Jordan Weber, JCRC Community Outreach & Legislative Affairs Manager,Mr. Satish Dhupelia, Great Grandson of Mahatma Gandhi (South Africa) and Mr. Prasad Gollanapalli, Managing Trustee - Gandhi King Foundation, India.  There will be a host of leaders in attendance including the Mayor of Irving, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, US Counsel General of India representing the White House, judges, business and community leaders along with the people of Irving and surrounding cities.

A Peace walk will also be held on Saturday October 4th, 2014 at 8:30 A.M. associated with the dedication at the same location 1201 Hidden Ridge, Irving TX 75063 just off MacArthur Blvd, children and adults from all surrounding cities, nationalities and communities are invited to join this walk of Peace and Hope.
