MUMBAI, India - Oct. 1, 2014 - PRLog -- If you’re reading this, you might have stumbled upon this blog post after going through many research articles on quilling. Sometimes the articles available online or in the books look as complex as if you are building a space shuttle. It only leaves you baffled. Don’t worry, you’re also like most of the quilling enthusiasts who, after referring to a lot of articles want to throw up their hands and walk away. But, wait!

It’s not as hard as it seems!

Quilling is an art form which needs a lot of patience, dedication and endless practice. It will be a while before you get it right. It is an inexpensive, easy (if done with persistence) and productive craft. When doing a quilling experiment, one wrong turn and it can change your design. The tips mentioned below will help while you are coiling, turning, rolling and crimping paper strips.

5 handy tips for Quillers –

1)  Use the tool which you’re comfortable with!

There are many tools available in the market for quilling to achieve the desired coils or spiral sequences. But, if you’re a beginner, make use of a player or a toothpick whichever is available at your home. The best tool for quilling is your fingers. Follow the steps on the internet on how to use the quilling tools. But at any point of time, if you cannot follow the steps; just use the method of trial and error. It works best.

2) All quilling papers aren’t equal – The standard size of paper strips is 1/8″ wide, but not all papers are the same. There are slight differences in the paper weight manufactured by different companies. When you’re making a quilling article and don’t get it right, don’t give up. Try using paper strips of different companies. Maybe the problem is with the paper strips and not you.

3) Even the quilling paper has a ‘right’ & ‘wrong’ side – When you look at the quilling paper, you will notice, one side has smooth edges curving downwards while the other side is rough and curving upwards.  So the smooth side is the ‘right side’. Ensure you keep the smooth edges outside in all your scrolls and coils. Once you join all the strips together, you will see a difference.

4) In any craft, be neat & tidy. It counts!

While you are making craft articles, you are delighted when the final product is spic and span with no blots of glue. The same applies when you’re quilling. Only a little glue is required to seal the end of the coil or scroll to another and some more glue is required when you’re sticking the quilling to a paper or a frame. Make sure, you have clean hands while you are working on a quilling project. The Best Tip – To keep your hands off glue, keep a wet towel & a dry towel. Wipe your fingers with the wet towel to remove the glue and then wipe your wet fingers with the dry towel so that you don’t spoil the paper.

5) Your scrolls are as unique as you!

Did you know, your scrolls or coils of your quills depend upon your moods! Try quilling when you’re happy, when you’re stressed or when you are sad and check the variations in the results.

An essential tip – Whenever you start a quilling project, complete it at once. This also makes sure you’re consistent. Different moods means there will be variations in the way you’re rolling, scrolling and coiling paper strips.

Also, your quilling designs will be different from your friend’s. It depends on the way you scroll the paper and it is never the same.

So, there you go.. hope these tips come in handy while you’re quilling.

After hours of self-help, research and frustration you will understand the intricate art of quilling & surely become a pro!

We are certain that you will make great quilling articles and will be showered with compliments from your friends. You can also check out Quilling classes in & around Mumbai here (http://www.findurclass.com/furc/search/art-and-craft/quil...).
