Follow on Google News | Ventura Gym Aims to Help Muscle out Breast Cancer with October EventsBy: Mavericks Gym On Oct. 18, Mavericks will feature a cross-fit competition from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. All cross-fit “boxes” or programs in Ventura are invited to enter teams of two men and two women, in RX and open divisions. Teams will compete in three events plus one floater event. Movements may include clean & jerk, double unders, toe-to-bar, deadlifts, burpees and kettle bell thrusters. Movement standards and events will be released starting on Oct. 1. Prizes will be awarded to the top two teams in each category, and all competitors will receive a t-shirt and goodie bag. Registration is a $220 per four-person team ($55 per person), donation to VCMCA. Also on Oct.18 from 8 a.m. to noon, Mavericks is hosting Spin for Life, a spinning marathon for individuals and four-person teams. All competitors will share bikes relay style. Prizes will be awarded to the teams that raise the most money and have a team member still spinning at the end of the last ride. Registration is $50 per person or $200 per team of four, paid as a donation to VCMCA. Weightlifters will compete in Lift for Life on Oct. 25 from 9 a.m. to noon, completing as many consecutive reps as possible in the bench press at bodyweight for men and 60 percent of bodyweight for women. Winners will receive prizes and will have their names prominently displayed on the Mavericks Lift for Life Championship Belt to be hung in the free weight room.
