Michael-Ann Russell JCC provides opportunity for kids to “Play the Field”

AVENTURA, Fla. - Sept. 30, 2014 - PRLog -- Field Hockey, a team sport in which players try to score a goal by striking or pushing balls with hockey sticks on a synthetic or grass field, is breaking new ground in college scholarship opportunities. The Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center in North Miami Beach has an all-new Field Hockey Program that not only provides a high caliber level of instruction, but also enables kids to get fit, have fun, and learn a new sport that could possibly provide them with a way to attend college.

The co-ed program, one of the only of its kind in South Florida, is available to boys and girls ages 6-19 years, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 pm. Kids have fun, make new friends, and are immersed in a healthy, positive environment. Some of the benefits of playing Field Hockey include healthier body weight, development of the cardiovascular system, improved muscle strength, better coordination, team work, and improved communication skills.

Surprisingly, a total of 260 schools around the United States, offer scholarship opportunities to those who excel in the sport of field hockey. About $1 billion in full and partial athletic scholarships are awarded each year by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to more than 126,000 undergraduate student-athletes at Division I and Division II schools.
