Along with the bragging rights of following in the footsteps of Walt Whitman, the honor brings a cash stipend, and recognition as the poet's name is added to the Long Island Poet of the Year wall plaque in the Walt Whitman Birthplace Interpretive Center, becoming a permanent part of Long Island's literary history. Annabelle Moseley will be honored at an Awards Ceremony at the Walt Whitman Birthplace on Sunday, October 19th, 1-3 PM. The Awards Ceremony is free and open to the public, and will feature a reading by Ms. Moseley, and a wine and cheese reception. Annabelle Moseley will also offer a writing workshop at the Birthplace on Sunday, October 26th, 1-3PM About Annabelle Moseley ( http://www.annabellemoseley.com/ Annabelle Moseley is the award-winning author of several collections of poetry including The Clock of the Long Now (David Robert Books, 2012) which made The Poetry Foundation's best-seller list for poetry in 2012. Her newest collection is a double volume of poetry: A Ship to Hold The World and The Marionette’s Ascent, (forthcoming Dec. 2014, Wiseblood Books). She is the author of the young adult novel: The Delaney: Journey to Banba, and a collection of children’s poetry: 10 Hero Fables. A multiple Pushcart Prize nominee, Moseley has published poems in such journals as Able Muse, The Seventh Quarry, The Nervous Breakdown, Measure, and The National Review. The house is an interesting example of unusual American architecture. Built c. 1819 by Whitman's father, this newly restored farmhouse is a New York State Historic Site and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The site houses historic nineteenth-century furniture, including an old schoolmaster's desk. Walt Whitman State Historic Site also features an interpretive center which includes more than 100 portraits, original letters, manuscripts, and artifacts. Additional on-site activities include guided tours, a film, giftshop/bookstore and a scenic picnic area. The Walt Whitman Birthplace continues to support the literary arts through its recognition and support of some of contemporary literature's most vibrant poets through ongoing programs, workshops, readings and awards sponsored by the Walt Whitman Birthplace Association.
