Madhubuti, Renowned Poet and Author, to Lecture at Adelphi UniversityDr. Madhubuti is an award-winning author and educator and is considered one of the architects of the Black Arts Movement. He has published numerous volumes of poetry and essays as well as many works of non-fiction. For his work he has received many awards and honors, including the American Book Award and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Dr. Madhubuti has held faculty positions at universities around the country. As a strong proponent of independent Black institutions as well as an influential leader in the Black literary tradition, Dr. Madhubuti founded the Third World Press, the oldest independent publisher of Black thought and literature in the United States. He has also helped found several private schools. This lecture is co-sponsored by the James Baldwin Lecture on Literary and Social Criticism and the Center for African, Black, and Caribbean Studies.
