One Quick Short Stop Before The Hall Of Fame

NEW ORLEANS - Sept. 30, 2014 - PRLog -- The Yankees’ legendary shortstop, Derek Jeter’s announcement to retire has really hit his beloved fans extra hard. In honor of his historic 20 year-long baseball career, his last game with the New York Yankees versus the Boston Red Sox was full of respectful silence and chants with his name, instead of the typical obnoxious jeers and sneers that usually resonate at a prolific rivalry sports game.

Jeter took his career as a professional baseball player and customized it into a personal brand respected by the toughest of baseball critics and adored by loyal fans. In today’s world we too commonly see corruption and disappointment circulating around so-called “sports heroes,” and I am so grateful to this man for living up to the image and career he has created for himself. He is a World Series champion who simply has had an undying love and respect for the game. Jeter has also remained devoted to the city of New York his entire career, which further demonstrates that he is a sports celebrity who never got caught up in the limelight. In other words, Jeter has lived up to the trust in which the public has placed in him. This is a key factor in developing a trustworthy brand and business for oneself. In my award winning and best-selling book, Sell Your Business for More Than It’s Worth, I discuss how a business’s legacy further empowers its worth. If you study this man’s career, I believe he has even more insight into personal qualities one should always maintain in daily business dealings. Some of the biggest and most sought after businesses with hungry buyers after them are the ones with legacies to match and a brand that people trust and want to uphold for generations to come. It is much easier to uphold an establish brand, rather than to try and build one from scratch. The same upholds with businesses: you are better off investing in an existing business that is already established rather than trying to build one from scratch.

The business of brand-building is a difficult endeavor, but Derek Jeter is a prime example of brilliant attainment in business, ethics, and entrepreneurship. Thanks to his smile, exquisite playing and his leadership skills even Fortune Magazine even named him the 11th-greatest world leader. He was listed just behind the Dalai Lama and Jef Bezos, the founder of Amazon—that is pretty incredible! And because of his good work, good deeds, the way he presents himself and how he has always been so proud to play for the Yankees. Now, although Jeter is not perfect, and maybe he did make excessive commercial appearances, but compared to other athletes behaviors the man is practically perfect. In addition to the long list of things Derek Jeter NEVER did do throughout the duration of his career, there is a very long list of great things that he DID do, which make him destined to have his picture adorn the MLB’s walls in the hall of fame. Jeter has finished the game of his life’s work with a home run, and because of it the man has created a legacy for himself that will live on long after he is gone.
