Fit Haven Health and Wellness Organization Receives Grant from

South-Central Regional Water Authority

Grant to support local effort on Michelle Obama’s Initiative to promote drinking more water

New Haven, CT – Fit Haven supported by South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (RWA) will promote a local initiative to encourage New Haven to drink more water, an easy choice to improve health and well being every day.  The effort brings part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s  “Let’s Move”Campaign, “Drink Up” to New Haven.  This effort will remind people that drinking more water will help you have more energy to do more, longer and with better focus.  The South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority contributed $2,500 and an organizational recreational permit to Regional Water Authority Water Shed Properties towards the initiative.

“Since we started Fit Haven Inc., We’ve been looking for as many ways as possible to help women and girls lead healthier lives.  All experts agree the single biggest contributor to obesity is sugary drinks so if we can just commit to adding more water to our daily habit then that’s a huge step towards getting to and maintaining a healthy weight”, says founder and Executive Director of Fit Haven, Mubarakah Ibrahim, who was invited to the White House as a special guest of President Obama in July of 2013 and sat next to him during the event.  “Most of the time making small steps, not complete lifestyle changes, is what makes the greatest and longest impact on our health.”

To remind families of the importance of drinking water, Fit Haven will distribute hundreds of reusable water bottles with the “Drink Up New Haven” logo, post hundred of posters around town, and offer outdoor activities on RWA Water Shed properties throughout the fall and early winter. Business and Organization Supporters can also purchase additional bottles to contribute to the campaign and other healthy lifestyle initiatives offered by Fit Haven.

Fit Haven will be asking people in the city to visit the campaign on Facebook (www.facebook.com/FitHavenCT), to upload pictures of themselves drinking water, or tagging their pictures #drinkH2O and#drinkupNH and #FitHavenCT

Fit Haven’s goal is to open a full health and wellness center in the Dixwell/Newhallville area where women can have access to a full range of health and fitness resources and programs.  They are running a fundraising campaign in which individuals can donate on their website at http://fithaven.org/give/
