NEW YORK - Sept. 29, 2014 - PRLog -- Organizers of the Venezuelan Film Festival in NY (@VenFilmFest), presented by CITGO®, announced the winner of this year's Best Film Audience Award, Thursday evening at the festival's closing ceremony at Tribeca Cinemas.

The winning film, "House at the End of Time" (Venezuela's first horror movie, directed by Alejandro Hidalgo) won top prize over thirteen other films in various genres and formats including crowdpleaser, "My Straight Son" and the political, documentary on transgender activism in Venezuela, "I, Undocumented."

Hidalgo, who was present at the festival for several post-screening Q&As of his film, won post production services for his next film sponsored by Bolivar Films (Caracas), and a Filmmakers Kit valued at $750 sponsored by B&H Photo & Video (New York).  The Best Film Audience Award statue presented to Hidalgo was an original work of Venezuelan artist Sergio Barrios AKA El Hase. The closing ceremony also included a special performance by Danzas Mandela (African Venezuelan music band).

The 2014 Venezuelan Film Festival in New York (“VEFFNY”), which took place September 19-25 featured a lineup of award-winning films and events including fourteen feature-length films by a diverse mix of Venezuelan filmmakers. The eclectic program selection was filled with compelling stories that captured the growing artistic boldness and fearlessness of Venezuela’s new generation of filmmakers (embodied in Hidalgo's work) -- with several featured films touching on themes surrounding gender and sexuality in Venezuela (a topic that, until now, was untouched in modern Venezuelan cinema).
