Apereo Foundation Announces Several uPortal 4.1 Implementations within the First Month of Release

uPortal 4.1 Implemented at Major Institutions and Organizations
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Sept. 29, 2014 - PRLog -- Apereo Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) membership organization organizing conferences in support of open source software design, development, and implementation, today announced that several higher education institutions and organizations have adopted uPortal 4.1. uPortal 4.1 was released in Spring 2014, and universities and organizations were quick to adopt. California State Polytechnic University – Pomona, Clark University, University of South Dakota, and IllniCloud (an organization capable of providing state of the art computing resources to K-12 Education) have all adopted uPortal 4.1.

uPortal 4.1 is a significant upgrade and boasts many attractive features. It is in use at several higher education institutions. Major new features include Responsive Design, multi-tenancy, performance and scalability improvements, along with a marketplace for adding portlets with an “app store” experience.

“One of the compelling features for us was the availability of new responsive design layout in uPortal 4.1,” said Chuck Wyatt, Web Services Manager at, Clark University. “uPortal 4.1 offers us the flexibility to deliver services and content in a timely, efficient manner -- whether desktop, tablet, or mobile."

Other new features in uPortal 4.1 include regions (for placing dynamic content anywhere on a page), customizable skins, favorites, and search auto-complete. In addition to several bundled portlets included out-of-the-box, there are also portlets that can be downloaded and added to uPortal 4.1, including Facebook, Google Maps, and Twitter.

uPortal 4.1 is designed to support the complete student lifecycle and to provide services for parents, faculty, and staff as well as students. The portal provides technologies for successful enterprise integration and content aggregation, including a powerful core framework, flexible layouts, interface customization, user experience, portal administration, authentication and security, groups and permissions, and mobile access.
