Follow on Google News | Policies, strategies and innovative measures to improve city logisticsBy: HIT/CERTH The workshop, co-organized by the Municipality of Piraeus as the lead project partner and the Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT) of the Cetner for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), presented best practices in energy efficient urban goods movement with emphasis on environmental considerations. The pilot actions to be implemented in the City of Piraeus were discussed. These actions focus on the use of ICT in urban logistics and on waste management. Piraeus is one of the 6 cities participatingin the SMILE project,implementing actions which aim to improveurban distribution adopting 'green' practices. The workshop was attended by representatives from the Municipality of Piraeus, Piraeus Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Piraeus Trade Association, ICT Hellas, Environmental Association of Municipalities of Athens – Piraeus (PESYDAP), Piraeus Container Terminal S.A., Hellenic Trade Union of Land Freight Transport, and Association of Light Trucks in Piraeus area. SMILE is co-funded by the MED Programme. It aims to promote innovative energy efficient solutions for smart MED cities. It develops and promotes public policies, strategies and measures for intelligent urban freight transport, improving public and private actors’ knowledge while supporting solutions for energy and associated GHG emissions reduction.
