HomeAid Care Day at the United Methodist Children's Home

HomeAid Atlanta Partners with the Atlanta Remodelers Council and the Professional Women in Building to Assist the United Methodist Children’s Home in Decatur

DECATUR, Ga. - Sept. 26, 2014 - PRLog -- HomeAid Atlanta once again partnered with Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association (HBA) councils for a HomeAid Care Day on September 19.  Volunteers from the Atlanta Remodelers Council and the Professional Women in Building (PWB) provided upgrades, repairs, and facility maintenance at the United Methodist Children’s Home (UMCH) in Decatur.  UMCH provides services for transitionally homeless families and individuals.  This was the sixth HomeAid Care Day with the Remodelers Council and the second with the PWB.

The Remodelers Council focused on painting a large dining hall, repaired concrete, and completed bathroom repairs (lowered ceiling, new countertop).  The dining hall project was one that had been on the UMCH wish list for twenty years, according to a UMCH staff member.  The dated rose-colored walls were transformed with a fresh coat of white paint, making the room much brighter.

Members of the PWB painted a deck, assisted with landscaping,  removed litter from around the UMCH campus and cleaned a cottage that may become temporary housing for a family in need.

“The work performed by HomeAid Atlanta volunteers was exceptional and very professional.  They ensured excellent quality, finished on time and provided good materials.  Significant improvements were completed on our campus with their help.  The United Methodist Children’s Home saved approximately $8,000 due to the efforts of HomeAid’s volunteer groups from the Atlanta Remodelers Council and the Professional Women in Building Council of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association.  We are deeply grateful for our relationship with HomeAid Atlanta and its volunteers and look forward to welcoming them back to the United Methodist Children’s Home for future projects,” said Sergio Perez, UMCH Facilities Manager.

HomeAid is grateful to the hard working volunteer groups from both HBA councils and project donors Unique Homes & Renovations, Paces Construction, Porter Paint Group, Mast Custom Cabinets, Sherwin-Williams and The Home Depot. View photos at www.facebook.com/HomeAidAtlanta.
