WARSAW, Ind. - Sept. 25, 2014 - PRLog -- On Sunday, September 14, 2014, the 1,000,000th active geocache in the US was published on Geocaching.com. The site launched in 2000 with just 75 geocaches.

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.

Last month, Michelle Weidenbenner, author of Cache a Predator, a Geocaching Mystery sent books to geocachers around the US and Canada to plant in cache sites as a “trackable.”

Trackables are a special type of object found within geocaches that contain a unique tracking code. Trackables often have a mission, too. Weidenbenner’s novels have a goal to move to all 50 states and all Canadian Provinces to help spread awareness of child abuse.

Child abuse occurs at every socioeconomic level, across ethnic and cultural lines, within all religions and at all levels of education. It affects the victims, families and communities.

Weidenbenner’s books each have a unique tracking code so cachers/hikers can follow where the book has gone at geocaching.com. Since this project was launched, some books have traveled more than 5000 miles and through six different states.

Cache a Predator recently won the 2014 Gold Award in the Readers’ Favorite International Awards and has been a Barnes and Noble and an Amazon #1 bestseller.

Weidenbenner’s other novels include a young-adult, multi-cultural novel, Scattered Links, and a children’s chapter books series about a seven-year-old girl named Éclair.

Michelle teaches teens and adults how to get published at her blog, Random Writing Rants. She will be teaching, “How to Write a Novel in 30 Days,” at the Citrus County Library in Homosassa, Florida October 18, 2014.

Weidenbenner's Bio:

AWARD-WINNING and BESTSELLING AUTHOR.

GOLD Medal WINNER in the 2014 READERS' FAVORITE International Awards. Bronze Medal Winner in Dan Poytner's Global eBook Awards. Winner of the Kindle Book Promotion Awards.

Michelle is a fulltime employee of God's kingdom, writing and encouraging writers every day. She's often a sucker for emotional stories, her sensitive side fueling the passion for her character's plights, often giving her the ability to show readers the "other" side of the story.

She grew up in the burbs of Detroit with five brothers. No sisters. Each time her mom brought the boy bundle home from the hospital Michelle cried, certain her mom liked boys better than girls. But when her brothers pitched in with the cooking, cleaning, and babysitting--without drama, Michelle discovered having brothers wasn't so bad. They even taught her how to take direct criticism without flinching, which comes in handy with book reviews.

Michelle is living her dream--writing every day and thanking God for the stories He puts in her path. When Michelle isn't writing she's winning ugly on the tennis court. She's known as "Queen of the Rim Shots." No joke. It's ugly.
