CHICAGO - Sept. 25, 2014 - PRLog -- CHICAGO—The Barbara Bates Foundation will host its third annual “Knocking Out Breast Cancer” Fashion Show at Venue One, 1044 W. Randolph St., on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014.  To date the event, has raised over $300K  to educate women in under resourced communities about the detection and treatment of breast cancer.  The funds have gone directly to programs administered by Sinai Health Systems and the Lurie Cancer Center at Northwestern Memorial Hospital with this year’s goal to raise an additional $200K. The Fashion Show features breast cancer survivors wearing garments designed by Barbara Bates, herself a breast cancer survivor.

“Through my experiences I learned that breast cancer does not have a type and It can strike anyone despite their race, age, size or even family history,” says Bates, fashion designer and founder of The Barbara Bates Foundation, “I am humbled by the success we’ve had to date in raising these funds and excited about the prospect of taking it to another level and helping even more women through our partnership with Sinai.”

“Knocking Out Breast Cancer” is not just another fashion show, rather all the models are survivors of breast cancer or are currently battling the disease. Bates is pioneering the movement to support breast cancer research for women of color through fashion, and funds raised will help create the Barbara Bates Foundation Imaging Center at Mt. Sinai Hospital. Earlier this year the Foundation hosted a 5k Walk-Run called “Walk Where You Live” that contributed an additional $10K to the effort.

“We are grateful for our partnership with the Barbara Bates Foundation”, said Karen Teitelbaum, Sinai Health System President and CEO.  “It is a powerful grassroots commitment to fight breast cancer in our community. We look forward to this year’s event.”

Comedian Sinbad, the hardworking funnyman whose clean, family friendly persona and animated antics have endeared him into the hearts of dedicated fans worldwide, will be returning to host this year’s event alongside newswoman Robin Robinson.  Sinbad’s mother and sisters are all breast cancer survivors.    Honorary Co-Chairs for the event are breast cancer survivors Cheryl Jackson, vice president of government affairs at ARA Corporation and Zoraida Sambolin (http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/Zoraida_Sambolin.html), news anchor for NBC 5 Chicago. Fighting With Fashion begins with a reception and silent auction from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; the Fashion Show begins at 7 p.m.  Limited seating available at www.barbarabatesfoundation.org.
