Here at SHARC, we know this isn’t true, and we have pride in our active adults who continually strive to reach their “fountain of youth”. If you are just starting your journey as an active adult, SHARC also has programs and staff to help you transition into the active lifestyle we know you can have. Here are some exercises and programs geared towards active adults looking to stay fit!

Tennis & Racquetball

If you’re feeling competitive and like a good challenge while working out, you may want to look into tennis or racquetball, or both! Tennis and racquetball, when played competitively, can actually burn more calories than traditional aerobics or cardio. Tennis and racquetball also improve, strength, speed, fine motor skills, and bone strength and density. SHARC offers adult tennis programs for everyone, from those just starting out to those who have been playing their whole lives. Take SHARC’s “Learn To Play Tennis” class or challenge yourself to the Flex League or Men and Women’s Interclub Tennis.

Cardio

Active adults may also want to incorporate some cardio into their workout routines, as cardio can lower stress hormone levels, improve stamina, and reduce resting heart rates and blood pressure. The best thing about cardio is that you don’t need much to get a workout in. Going for a bike ride, a run, or even a walk is a great cardio work out. If you’re feeling ambitious, check out SHARC’s cardio based programs such as Body Combat, Body Pump, Body Jam, and Body Step. You can also cool off from your cardio workout by checking out SHARC’s Yoga classes, which focus on strength, meditation, and relaxation.

Aquatics

The water can be a great place to ease into your exercise routine, and it’s never too late to start! Swimming is a great way to improve all aspects of fitness, such as cardio, core strength, and overall self-confidence. If you’ve got all the basics down for swimming already, try water aerobics for a more intense workout. Here at SHARC, we offer both swimming lessons and group water aerobics for active adults. These programs offer low-impact exercise and can add variety to a repetitive exercise routine.

Silver Sneakers Programs

Now, some of you active adults may just be continuing an already active life, but for some, growing older may be their first opportunity to start leading an active life. For those active adults just starting their journey to a life committed to exercise and fitness, SHARC offers a SilverSneakers program, aimed at helping active adults reach their ultimate fitness potential.
