The Napa Valley Wine Train Introduces a Limited Release Collection of Wines ­ Napa Quake Wines

NAPA, Calif. - Sept. 23, 2014 - PRLog -- NAPA VALLEY, Calif. (September 2014) –

The Napa Valley Wine Train, one of the most distinctive restaurants in the Napa Valley and celebrating its 25th anniversary this month, is putting its wines damaged in the August 24th Napa Earthquake on the top shelf.

“This wine is special, a part of history,” said Kira Devitt, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the Napa Valley Wine Train. “It may be a little stained or chipped, but discounting it doesn’t do any good to a community already suffering from the devastating earthquake.”

The labels of these wines may be discolored, but what counts on the inside. This campaign is urging the public to support, donate, and look beyond these “blemishes,” for they make these special bottles unique and the wine on the inside wasn’t damaged. Napa Valley wines are more than just the labels on the bottles.

At 3:20AM on Sunday, August 24th, 2014, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred near the city of Napa, California, lasting nearly 20 seconds. Estimates of damage range from $400 to $800 million, $87 million of which may be eligible for federal reimbursement. This was the strongest earthquake to hit the region in 25 years. Over 200 people people were treated for injuries at the Queen of the Valley Medical Center. One death has been attributed to the earthquake. For the Wine Train, service was halted for 48 hours as they inspected their tracks, train, trestles, and bridges, all of which were undamaged.

While the Wine Train's Wine Shop suffered losses, over one hundred bottles survived the earthquake. Each is being given a small note proclaiming its history. 10% of the proceeds from the Wine Train’s sale of Napa Quake Wine will be donated to the Napa Valley Community Disaster Fund for Earthquake Relief, the same fund the Napa Valley Vintners generously donated $10 million.

The Wine Train is inviting other local businesses with wine that survived the earthquake to not discount, but to donate.
