The Salvation Army Appoints New Divisional Leader for Kansas and Western Missouri

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Sept. 23, 2014 - PRLog -- Kansas City, MO (September 22, 2014) - The Salvation Army is announcing the appointment of a new leader for the Kansas and Western Missouri Division, headquartered in Kansas City.

Major Evie Diaz will assume the dual role of Divisional Commander and Director of Women’s Ministries effective October 1, 2014, replacing Major Charles Smith, who along with his wife Major Sharon Smith, are moving to Chicago to lead the Metropolitan Division of The Salvation Army.

Major Diaz most recently served as Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army in the Heartland Division, headquartered in Peoria, Illinois and previously worked at The Salvation Army College for Officer Training in Chicago. She has also served the organization in various Midwest appointments in Wisconsin and Michigan as well as in the Northern European country of Latvia.  As an ordained minister with The Salvation Army, Major Diaz has a strong interest in urban and multi-ethnic ministry and Christian community development.

Major Diaz is looking forward to working in partnership with local businesses, church groups, civic leaders and others in the community and throughout the division to positively impact the communities that The Salvation Army serves in across Kansas and Western Missouri.

The Salvation Army has been serving people in need in Kansas and Western Missouri since 1885. There are 23 Salvation Army community centers throughout the division, including eight in the Kansas City metropolitan area. In 2013, The Salvation Army served more than 600,000 people in need throughout Kansas and western Missouri, providing food, clothing, shelter, emergency assistance and other vital services.
