Care UK national medical director to speak at healthcare conference

COLCHESTER, U.K. - Sept. 23, 2014 - PRLog -- Sarah, who moved to the Isle of Wight in 2005 to work at HMP Isle of Wight, joined Care UK in June 2013 as national medical director for Health and Justice, working with local teams to deliver and improve clinical care in more than 20 prisons and young offender institutions across the country. She will be heading a seminar at the Criminal Justice Management (http://cjm-conference.co.uk/) conference entitled: Healthcare – on the road to recovery?

Sarah said: “The seminar will explore the change in approach required in order to meet the increasing complexity in the patients we deal with. We will consider how we can better manage long-term conditions, mental ill health and substance misuse by working differently and making best use of the resources available, including patients’ own resources. Using case studies we will examine how a multidisciplinary approach can work in addressing these needs.

“We will also look at how we can apply a recovery model across multiple domains including physical and mental health, substance misuse, relationships and reoffending and rehabilitation, and in doing so, support a more proactive approach which empowers people to take their health and wellbeing more seriously.”

Earlier this year Sarah became a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners (http://www.careuk.com/news/frcgp-accolade-care-uk-medical...) (FRCGP), one of a small number working in the health and justice field to enjoy the accolade.

She added: “I’m honoured to be invited to talk at the conference and very much looking forward to addressing delegates. It is a great opportunity to share ideas and thoughts on a number of key challenges facing us.”
