Local NJ Parents Invent Cheap, Simple Solution to Hot-car Deaths in Children

HACKENSACK, N.J. - Sept. 19, 2014 - PRLog -- The Safety B.I.B. is a two-sided reminder system that engages both the driver and the public to prevent the death of children unintentionally left in hot cars. This patent-pending design was created by two young NJ parents, Eric and Kate Solan, after being exposed to horrific headlines across the nation in Summer of 2014. “After having our son, headlines turned into paranoia since we realize any change in routine can cause even the best parents to possibly make a grave mistake” says Kate. Both parents searched through the sea of expensive and complicated solutions and sensors before finally inventing the Safety B.I.B.

After several months of prototyping, they have created the first official prototypes out of 30mil plastic that is durable and waterproof. The product stores in an empty carseat while not in use. Once a child is placed in this carseat, the product is removed and hung on the rearview mirror where an alert “BABY IN BACKSEAT” hangs visibly below the mirror in traffic-sign-colors. This serves as a constant reminder to any parent while they are driving or parking.

Once the driver arrives at the destination, the product is removed and placed back in the carseat for the next ride. In the unlikely situation the parent was absent-minded enough to ignore the visual cue and leave the child in the car anyway, the public-facing side is also printed in traffic-sign bold coloring and requests that any passerby visually scan the car for an unattended child and call 9-11 if one is seen.

Both Eric and Kate are very excited about how conventional this product is. “There are no batteries or setup required. As long as parents make this part of their routine, it will provide certain comfort that when the product is visible, a child is present.” says Eric. “Parents can alternately place the product on their lap or temporarily hang it from their keys if state laws prohibit any obstruction of view.”

Although they will start with individual sales, the ultimate goal of the inventors is for Safety B.I.B. to become a standard product handed out to new parents by daycares and hospitals, and most importantly for car-seat manufacturers to include one in every box. They believe strongly enough that they have invested thousands of their personal money into the design and creation of the prototype and for the “patent-pending” status, but are attempting to raise $10,000 for the official patent and initial manufacturing on Kickstarter.

Kickstarter campaigns are “all-or-nothing” which means if the Safety B.I.B. project doesn’t reach it’s goal at the end of 30 days then this product might take years to reach the public. They ask that anyone concerned about the fact that an average of 38 children die each year due to being left in hot cars please considering as little as $1 to help their vision become a reality, and eventually maybe even save a life.
