Follow on Google News | Lead Window Maker Dispels “More” of the Fable Around PVC WindowsIntus Windows, a worldwide leader in energy efficient uPVC windows, discusses five more common myths associated with uPVC window products.
By: Intus Windows September 16, 2014 - New York, NY – “Intus recently issued a press release in an attempt to dispel five of the common myths associated with PVC window products,” says Aurimas Sabulis, managing director of Intus Windows (http://intuswindows.com/) Sabulis says that it is important to separate fact from fiction when it comes to uPVC products and dispel the myths associated with PVC windows which, he says, get a bad rap because of the amount of misinformation that’s out there. Myth: PVC Windows Pose a Fire Hazard “There is a common misconception that PVC window products pose a fire hazard, “Sabulis says. “This couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, PVC window frames are not only difficult to ignite, but they are naturally self-extinguishing.” Sabulis explains that PVC windows will only ignite at very high temperatures but, in the absence of a flame source, the window will stop burning. Therefore, he says, as a natural flame retardant throughout their product’s life, PVC windows will not cause, support, or enhance the development of fire. Myth: PVC Windows Are Weak According to Sabulis, PVC will not rust, rot or mold, and is termite resistant as well. “Intus manufactured PVC windows come with steel Galvanized U-Channels sealed within the chamber profile,” says Sabulis. “Nearly 90% of the windows strength comes from these reinforcements. Rest assured that Intus PVC Windows have been tested and achieve a DP70 rating and they have even been tested and approved for hurricane zones with wind speeds up to 200 miles per hour.” Myth: PVC Profiles Yellow Over Time While this may have been true in the past, when window manufacturers used substandard techniques and additives which caused yellowing in the window profile, Sabulis says that modern advancements and strict quality control during the manufacturing process have eliminated this result. Myth: PVC Windows Are Too Expensive Back in the early 1990’s when PVC was gaining market share, uPVC windows carried a higher price tag because they were a newer market product, according to Sabulis. “Today, with PVC windows being so readily available, the cost has come down and PVC windows are now priced lower than wood windows,” Sabulis says. “The current most economical way to get great high-performing energy efficient windows is to use PVC windows.” Myth: PVC Windows Do Not Breathe “All window frames can form condensation on the glass with the right atmospheric conditions being present,” Sabulis says. “It is not the fault of the window frame itself, but of interior humidity levels. This issue can be addressed with proper interior mechanical ventilation, and keeping indoor humidity levels below 35 percent during winter.” Intus Windows (http://intuswindows.com/ End
