Follow on Google News | Open-Xchange launches OX Messenger for text, voice and video messaging at OX Summit 2014Collaboration with Voiceworks fully integrates into OX App Suite to provide a complete, cloud-based communication solution
By: Open-Xchange OX App Suite users can use OX Messenger to make voice and video calls and send instant messages to other individual users or groups. Single click calling or IM from email chains, diary items and address book contacts streamlines communication making collaboration easier. Non-OX users can also take part in communication through a guest mode, ensuring no one is left out of the conversation. Optional features include the dial out to regular telephone network (PSTN) enabling users to call normal fixed-line and mobile phone numbers. “The modern communication landscape has become unnecessarily complex with individuals and businesses using multiple siloed applications and services often for a single purpose,” says Rafael Laguna, CEO of Open-Xchange. “These OTT services such as Skype and WhatsApp not only erode into service provider revenue but also make it difficult for users to manage communication with friends and colleagues. “OX Messenger empowers service providers to combat the threat of OTT services by offering a full suite of communication tools from a single portal. By having IM and video conversations from the same place that users already send email and share files, service providers will offer a simplified user experience and in turn helping to promote customer loyalty.” OX Messenger is the result of almost two years’ worth of collaborative development between Open-Xchange and Voiceworks. Built on the open source WebRTC standard protocol, OX Messenger offers highly resilient and secure peer to peer communication. A combination of desktop browser use and native apps for mobile ensure consistent and reliable performance and service at home, in the office or on the move. OX Messenger also supports browsers that do not yet support the WebRTC open standard, including Internet Explorer and Safari, by utilizing a proprietary fallback mechanism. “Integrating voice and video services with other communication platforms has always been a long-term ambition of ours, and collaborating with Open-Xchange has allowed us to achieve this,” says Stijn Nijhuis, CEO of Voiceworks. “Good communication is all about context, and by integrating communication tools directly with productivity tools we believe OX Messenger will allow people to work more effectively together.” OX Messenger was launched at OX Summit 2014, Europe’s largest open cloud event, at the Muffatwerk in Munich. Service providers will be able to offer OX Messenger to customers from December 2014 as part of OX-as-a-Service or a hybrid hosted OX App Suite installation.
