GLASGOW, Scotland - Sept. 18, 2014 - PRLog -- Hollywood actor Alan Cumming has firmly planted his support behind the fundraising campaign to raise £100,000 for the development of a new Tree Hub in Glasgow Botanic Gardens. Launched this week by TV presenter and West Ender Cat Cubie, the public appeal is directly aimed at the thousands of local people who walk, run, cycle or simply stop and admire the Gardens on a regular basis.  To make a donation, visit www.glasgowbotanicgardens.com/about-the-friends/donate/

Alan, a former West End resident, said:

“There’s nothing more refreshing than green space right at the heart of a city. For me the Glasgow Botanic Gardens were a haven of peace and tranquillity, giving me a chance to get back to nature right on my doorstep when I lived there. I was a regular visitor to the Gardens when I lived in West End, and I’m delighted to lend my support to the development of the Tree Hub.”

The Tree Hub, a majestic tree sculpture and information point linking the city’s trees with Scotland’s other National Tree Collections will give people the opportunity to learn the hidden stories of the Garden’s trees, as well as being a peaceful place for busy city dwellers to relax. The Tree Hub is the centrepiece of a variety of tree additions including a new Tree Trail and staff in the gardens offering talks and tours that will bring the Gardens to life.

Alan added:

“Among other things, the Tree Hub is intended to act as an outdoor amphitheatre, further encouraging the artistic vibrancy of Glasgow’s thriving West End, as well as being a spectacular addition to daily life for the local community. It’s a great project and I hope all current West-Enders will get behind it.”
