Council Bluffs Parks: An Intriguing Journey to a Source of Pride

The History and the Future of Council Bluffs, Iowa Area Parks

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - Sept. 17, 2014 - PRLog -- Council Bluffs parks are pristine and beautiful, but a peak behind the bushes reveals some intriguing tales from the past, including the city's deal with the mobster, Sam Bayliss' attempt to take his park back, plus the surveying error and failed real estate development that added to our park property.  A number of parks are disappeared entirely over the years, including Island, one of the city's largest, and Sloan, said to be Iowa's smallest.

The Historical Society and The Center present "CB's Parks: An Intriguing Journey to a Source Of Pride," Sunday, September 21, 2 p.m. at the Center, 714 South Main Street.  Richard Warner and Karen DeForest will show photos of parks past, including "Then and Now" pictures of Fairmount and Manawa; Parks and Recreation Director Larry Foster will talk about what's going on now with the parks and what's on the drawing board for the future.

The program is free and open to the public.  Visit www.HistoricalSocietyEvents.com for a gallery of vintage parks photos.
