According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car crashes are the leading cause of death for children, ages one to thirteen. Tragically, in 2012, over 1,000 children were injured or lost their lives in car accidents. NHTSA reported 37% of fatalities could have been prevented if the child had been in a car or booster seat or wearing a properly fitted seat belt.
