Sisters Collecting Clothes for Homeless Youth at Spectrum Athletic Club West Hills

CANOGA PARK, Calif. - Sept. 16, 2014 - PRLog -- Sisters Megan and Phoebe Stoeckel will continue fulfilling their mission of providing back-to-school clothes for local homeless youth by collecting gently used or new clothing on Saturday, September 20 from 9am – 1pm at Spectrum Athletic Club in Canoga Park (22235 Sherman Way).  The upscale facility is opening its doors that day for supporters of Operation Dress Up and will issue 3-day passes valued at $75 to those making donations.  Since childcare is offered at the club, entire families are encouraged to participate.

The sisters launched the student-run nonprofit in 2009 after learning that some 16,000 homeless students who lack basic necessities like clothing attend school in LA (the program later expanded to San Francisco when their cousin began organizing the project in the Bay Area).  All donations are delivered to homeless shelters and organizations that work directly with homeless youth. In addition to clothing, Operation Dress Up collects new books and school supplies.

"Going through your closet and donating a bag of gently used or hardly worn clothing is a seemingly easy task for most of us, but the impact it makes on someone less fortunate is enormous," says Phoebe Stoeckel. "We're so grateful to Spectrum for supporting our cause and hosting our next clothing drive."

“We’re delighted to partner with Operation Dress Up in this very important project,” added Charlie Hallum, general manager of Spectrum Athletic Clubs’ West Hills location.  “We are offering incentives and welcoming families so that we can boost participation.”

Spectrum Athletic Clubs boast spacious, modern facilities, highly trained staff, the latest in fitness equipment, high-end amenities and a full range of fitness programming.  The clubs are recognized leaders in providing a fitness experience that helps members achieve their individual goals.  For more details about memberships or fitness class information, visit www.spectrumclubs.com.
