Those eligible for a FREE NHS eye test are those who cannot visit a High Street optician and are those:

·          aged 60 or over

·          registered blind or partially sighted

·          diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma

·          considered to be at risk of glaucoma, as advised by an optician

·          aged 40 or over and your mother, father, brother, sister, son or  duaghetr has been diagnosed with glaucoma

·          receiving benefit (Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance or Pension Credit Guarantee Credit)

·          entitled to, or named on, a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate

·          on a low income and named on a valid HC2 (full help) or HC3 (partial help) certificate

·          eligible for an NHS Complex Lens Voucher (our optician will advise on the entitlement)

Who is eligible for NHS support towards the cost of glasses?

Those entitled to NHS support towards the cost of glasses are those who:

·          are eligible for an NHS complex lens voucher – your optician can advise you about your entitlement

·          receive Income Support

·          receive Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (not Contribution-based)

·          receive Pension Credit Guarantee Credit

·          receive Income-based Employment and Support Allowance (not Contribution-based)

·          are entitled to, or named on, a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate

·          are named on a valid NHS Certificate for full help with health costs (HC2)

·          are named on an NHS certificate for partial help with health costs (HC3)

How It works


Our optometrist will visit your home at the pre-arranged time and will call an hour before the appointment to check that it is still convenient. During the visit they will ask you about your eye history and any problems you may be having. We will then conduct an eye test, using equipment specially designed for use in the home.

If your eye test shows that you need glasses there are many styles to choose from, in various price ranges from £69. We can help find the most suitable glasses for you. If you qualify for NHS funding towards the cost of glasses, you may be eligible for a free pair or your glasses cost will be reduced by your NHS allowance.

When your new glasses are ready (normally within 14 days of our visit.) However, as your glasses are individually made to your own personal prescription, it may take a little longer, if this is the case, we will let you know.

You will also receive a written record of the outcome of your eye test and of the glasses you have chosen.

Visual Answers will come and professionally fit your glasses to you when they are ready.
