BALTIMORE - Sept. 16, 2014 - PRLog -- Ms. Deborah Ann Baker, Chief of Staff (EA-6B) at Naval Air Systems Command has been selected to receive Women of Color Magazine’s Career Achievement in Government award at the 19th Annual Women of Color Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Conference, which is scheduled to take place October 23-25 at the Detroit Marriot at the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan.

Ms. Baker is credited with 15+ years of leading Naval Aviation Enterprise (NAE) aircraft development, testing, and sustainment of systems at NAVAIR.  She serves as the first chief of staff in the Airborne Electronic Attack Systems, EA-6B office, the third ranking civilian in the program office and the first black woman to hold an upper management position within the EA-6B program organization, says Ms. Yvonne Davis, head, Range Operations Division, NAVAIR.

The 2014 Women of Color STEM conference is a multicultural event for women in scientific and technical careers. The conference features several key speakers who will address the underrepresentation of women in these disciplines. Attendees will be able to sit in training seminars that will highlight important topics such as leadership and professional skills, diversity and inclusion, technical leadership and innovation and career outlook.

Tyrone Taborn, CEO of Career Communications Group, calls the awards a long-deserved recognition for talented women. "Women make up more than half of the population of this country and are receiving more than half of the college degrees, yet too many women in today’s work force are trapped in low-paying and low-grade-level jobs," Taborn says. "Given the growing diversity of the current work force, employers must commit not only to leveling the playing field but also to addressing those inequalities that limit women from achieving their full career potential."
