KENT, Ohio - Sept. 16, 2014 - PRLog -- Governor John Kasich recently appointed Perry James (P.J.) Kimmel to Kent State University’s Board of Trustees for a two-year term as an undergraduate student trustee.

Kimmel, junior finance major, said he feels honored to receive this appointment and intends to represent the student body to the Board of Trustees and represent the board to the students. Kimmel’s goal over the next two years is to increase financial awareness among students.

“One of the biggest challenges students face is understanding not only student debt, but how the university uses tuition money,” Kimmel said.

As a finance major, Kimmel said he can use his interest in personal finance management to show passion and energy on this national issue.

“It is a two way street on my part,” Kimmel said. “I hope to not only work very closely with Kent State’s Undergraduate Student Government, but to also answer questions students may have regarding the r as a whole. Informing, hearing and representing the students at Kent State is my priority.”

Kimmel, a transfer student from Kent State’s Salem Campus, wants to echo President Warren’s goal of creating “one university.”

“I want to increase opportunities at the Kent State satellite campuses and increase student engagement with the main campus,” Kimmel said.

Kimmel an honors student and the new president of the Financial Management Association (FMA), a student organization that furthers the knowledge of finance beyond the classroom and provides networking opportunities, recently received the Rising Junior of the Year Award from Financial Executives International (FEI). Kimmel also completed a summer internship with the Eaton Corporation completing journals, account reconciliations, cutting expenses and writing off assets. Kimmel accepted an offer to return to Eaton next summer.

David Dumpe, Ph.D., one of Kimmel’s finance professors and faculty advisor for FMA, nominated Kimmel for the Rising Junior of the Year Award and selected him for Outstanding Finance Student of the Year. Sandy Centa, president of FEI, approved the nomination and invited Kimmel as the honoree from Kent State to join her at the FEI awards ceremony.

“P.J. is an exemplary young man and student,” Dumpe said. “His dedication to his schoolwork, internship and extracurricular activities is impressive and a positive reflection of Kent State and the College of Business Administration. I have no doubt that he will be a success as a member of the Board of Trustees, as well as, succeed in his future career.”

Kent State’s Board of Trustees is made up 11 members who are all appointed by the Governor of the State of Ohio with the advice and consent of the State Senate. The Board is responsible for selecting and appointing the president, setting the operating budget, approving personnel appointments, granting all degrees awarded by the University, establishing tuition and fee rates and more.
