Sept. 16, 2014 - PRLog -- As the shine wears off from #AIDS2014 it is important to remember that for HIV Advocates and Activists the world over, the fight against AIDS happens everyday. Fortunately there are individuals and organizations around the world who are dedicated and show a passionate commitment to #SteppingUpthePace to #endingAIDS.

During the Plenary Session (http://hivadvocates.net/aids-2014/stepping-up-the-pace/)“Stepping up the pace for trans people, gay men, and other MSM: A community perspective”HIV advocate Laurindo Garcia, Founder and Executive Director of B-Change Foundation and HIV Advocates unveiled his vision of a New Research Agenda: #IntoleranceVaccine (http://hivadvocates.net/advocacy-stories/reforming-policy/imagine-a-vaccine-that-prevented-tolerance/), an #AntiViolenceCondom (http://hivadvocates.net/advocacy-stories/reducing-human-rights-abuses/imagine-a-condom-that-protects-us-from-violence/) and #AntiHatePill. Garcia reminds us that despite the recent medical advancements made in fighting AIDS, progress is not going to be made towards #HIV until we stop the hate, violence and stigma and discrimination towards key affected populations. As long as there is hate and ignorance, there will be barriers towards people accessing these medical and scientific technologies. We now have Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis #PreP at our fingertips, but as long as people fear stigma and prejudice they will not come out to receive this treatment.

What can you do to push forward the New Research Agenda?

HIV Advocates aims to share the tools and strategies of seasoned HIV Advocates in order to inspire and catalyze new HIV advocates in-the-making towards innovations in the field of fighting HIV. Thirty years on, we’ve made great strides and advancements in fighting AIDS. Now it is time to pull together to cross that final finish line.
