By: McCarthy Building Companies Plant owners directly benefit from integrated VDC in design, estimating and planning. Tangible results include increased efficiency, constructability and project predictability, particularly when the entire project team is engaged in preconstruction and construction planning. Using VDC tools, including electronic plan rooms; 3D, 4D, and 5D modeling; tablet-based BIM software; QR equipment coding; laser scanning of existing facilities; and robotic total stations, project teams are virtually constructing and streamlining the most complex construction projects. These tools allow the team to identify and resolve potential issues early in the project cycle, and deliver concise information during construction operations. Webcast Attendees Will Learn: Which VDC tools are available and being used in the industry Advantages of VDC in various stages of a project’s life-cycle Why VDC is especially important to owners in Water Services How to decipher between your needs and general contractor offerings of VDC services McCarthy’s BJ Peterson will host the webcast. As assistant project manager, he oversees McCarthy’s self-perform mechanical work and the maintenance of plant operations during major plant expansion tie-ins. Recently, he pioneered the 3D as-built of the $120 million Chandler Airport Water Reclamation Facility expansion, which incorporated a myriad of existing underground utilities installed over the past 20 years. He is experienced in utilizing VDC in the plant environment and has identified the benefits and the value of incorporating visual collaboration platforms during preconstruction, construction and operational phases on water and wastewater projects. He also managed 3D model developments for two membrane bioreactor facilities in Farmington, New Mexico, and Flagstaff, Arizona.
