CHESTER, U.K. - Sept. 15, 2014 - PRLog -- Across the nation, schools were celebrating towards the end of last week to commemorate children's author extraordinaire, Roald Dahl's birthday. Extracts from his extensive books weave their way into our daily language as we search for golden tickets and gremlins in the machine. In time for the Annual Roald Dahl Day, a writer from Cheshire launches his wonderful tales of Swingin' Sixties in Moulton: a Dahl-esque adventure.

'Our Dave' as he's known in Winding Back The Clock, a.k.a Dave Kenneth (http://www.davekenneth.com/), takes readers back to life in ‘Little Hell’ in the decade set to come back into fashion this year (http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/fashion/features/exclusive-photoshoot-the-sixties-is-making-a-comeback-for-autumn-9722000.html). Did it ever really go out? Dave, 63, wanted to capture the essence of the iconic era and said, “I thought it would be lost for all time if I didn’t write it when I did.”

At a time when the UK's future is hotly being debated with the Scottish Referendum, fond memories of times past, including teachers with canes and the ever dreaded nit nurse visiting, are treasured by readers with a penchant for nostalgia. In the way that Dahl could paint a picture in his reader's heads, Kenneth has readers flinching at his pain and belly laughing at his capers. Like Dahl, not a 'good little boy', Dave was often a 'heller', hailing from 'Little Hell'.

These days, Moulton is a highly desirable residential area but it wasn’t like that in the 1950s and 60s. Dave said “It was called ‘Little Hell’ because it had such a reputation for being unwelcome to strangers with one road in and no roads out! It was a very tight-knit community where everyone stuck up for one another - that’s another reason why they didn’t like strangers and they soon had you weighed up."

Many towns back in that era were full of delightful characters and this easy read contains every one of them; and some! No ordinary village, 'Mewteners' were unforgettable people, as Dave's story is a memorable and redolent ride. It reads in a style that emulates the village gossips who many people across the UK can identify with.

References to authors of his literary past abound, Kenneth evokes the sass of The Beatles, Elvis and The Rolling Stones when the bands were first on the scene. With gentle asides, the narrative is meta: drawing readers’ attention to village annunciation and reminding them times have changed.

Illustrated by cartoonist Bill Tidy, whose work has been featured in Private Eye and the Daily Mirror, among others, the drawings serve to further add character to the protagonist's repertoire of friends and fellow villagers.

Currently available both as a Paperback and Kindle edition (Memory Lane Books), Kenneth's first novel is available at http://www.davekenneth.com/ and http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dave-Kenneth/e/B00MNG32RC/ref=ntt...
