Sept. 15, 2014 - PRLog -- Kent State College of Business Administration Associate Accounting Professor Indrarini Laksmana, Ph.D.’s paper titled “Board Diversity and Corporate Responsibility” was recently published in the Journal of Business Ethics.

The paper examines the impact of board diversity on firms’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance. The study found that board diversity is positively associated with CSR performance. Board diversity is associated with a greater number of areas in which CSR is strong and a fewer number of areas in which CSR is a concern.

“Our study contributes to the greater understanding of the role of corporate boards in overseeing management performance,” Dr. Laksmana said. “Specifically, we examine the effectiveness of diverse boards in supervising managers’ CSR performance. Diversity increases firms’ ability to recognize the interests of their broader groups of stakeholders.  Our study supports the calls for greater board diversity from regulators in the U.S. and European countries.”

The paper is published in the Journal of Business Ethics, an A ranked publication in the college and is ranked in the Financial Times Top 45 Journals.

Dr. Laksmana coauthored the paper with Maretno Harjoto and Robert Lee, both professors of finance and accounting at Pepperdine University’s Graziado School of Business and Management.
