CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Sept. 18, 2014 - PRLog -- OutdoorGearLab, a respectable website known for its detailed comparison reviews of outdoor equipment, has recently released the results of their analysis of twenty-three top backpacking tents. This review is an update of the original review published early last year. With input from over fifty different testers who backpacked and camped in various places throughout the U.S. comparing test products side-by-side, each product was scored in the areas of durability, livability, ease of set up, weather resistance, adaptability, weight and packed size. Top scoring products received the prestigious awards of Editors’ Choice, Top Pick and Best Buy. The awards presented also reflect the OutdoorGearLab testing teams choices for best all-purpose product, the best lightweight product, the best two-door option, the best value and the best design for occasional backpacking and dual car camping. OutdoorGearLab reviewers encourage shoppers to consider lightweight shelters in addition to tents and have included a helpful buying advice article, which outlines the benefits of each as well as explaining the differences between various types of tents.

The winners are as follows:

Editors’ Choice – Hilleberg Anjan 2

The Hilleberg Anjan 2 wins Editors’ Choice award for being the most weather resistant, durable and spacious model in its weight class. It is constructed from top-notch textiles and has a lot of extra features. According to Gear Review Editor, Jessica Haist, “The Anjan 2 pitches easily, has an inner portion that is removable and its guylines adjust with cool time saving cams. The Anjan 2’s tunnel design was an absolute favorite among our reviewers and if we had to pick one product for car camping, backpacking and all of our other three season outdoor overnight excursion needs, this would be the one. Our testers took this product while touring through Nepal and India and even on a bike trip down the Baja Peninsula.”

Top Pick – MSR Hubba Hubba NX

For being the most lightweight and versatile two-door option, the Hubba Hubba NX received the Top Pick award. Haist writes that MSR has constructed this new model with all new materials, which has lightened its weight considerably. This two-door model with a nice amount of space and good ventilation, Haist recommends highly for alpine climbing trips and backpacking.

Top Pick – Terra Nova Solar Photon 2

Also winner of the Top Pick award, the Solar Photon 2 was chosen because it has the most compact packed size of all the products tested. As reported by Haist, “The Solar Photon 2 weighs only two pounds and one ounce. It is so light and small it might slip your mind that you’re carrying it! We loved its large vestibule and the protection that its solid inner walls provided against condensation and wind. We gave it our highest rating for the lightweight tent with poles category.”

Best Buy – REI Half Dome 2 Plus

The REI Half Dome 2 Plus is extremely spacious and durable. Haist explains,
“The Half Dome 2 Plus is a bit heavier than most of the other contenders tested but we highly recommend it for quick backpacking trips or car camping. It is strong, has good ventilation and its vestibules are very large. It is a very comfortable product and an excellent value.”

Best Buy – Mountainsmith Morrison 2

This review warranted two Best Buy award winners. The Morrison 2 was also chosen for this award because it is such a great deal for the price. Gear Editor Haist elaborates, “ The Morrison 2 has a lot of room inside and many extra features such as doors that double zip and open up further than most and it was a breeze to set up.”
