AURORA, Ill. - Sept. 12, 2014 - PRLog -- Ron Nosek, an instructor with Elmhurst-based Nature Education Programs (http://www.natedpro.org/), will be hosting area families, students and adults at Benedictine University from 1-4 pm on Saturday, September 27 for a free workshop about enjoying the outdoors safely.

Who:    Area families, students (elementary through college) and adult leaders of children’s groups (i.e., Scout leaders) will gain insight into safely experiencing outdoor activities, from hiking and biking to canoeing, kayaking, snowshoeing, skiing and rafting.

What:    This free three-hour class, What 2 Know B4 You Go!, will present real-life stories of emergencies and accidents that have occurred to people during common outdoor activities. The true stories will be followed by hypothetical situations designed to challenge the audience to craft its own, group survival strategy. Each plan is then shared with and gently critiqued by the instructors to become a workable solution to the pretend problem.

When:   1-4 pm on Saturday, September 27, 2014

Where: The Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum (http://www.ben.edu/museum/) on the second floor of Birck Hall at Benedictine University, 5700 College Rd., Lisle, IL 60532

Why:     This program is designed specifically for families with young children and for individuals with limited experience in the outdoors. Skills that will be covered in this program include building a simple shelter and how to use flint-and-steel to start a fire. Nosek will also share a list of six essential items for a personal survival kit, and each attendee will receive two of these six items free at the conclusion of the program. Other essential survival kit items will be available for purchase after the program.

How:     Please register by September 25. Contact Karly Tumminello at 630-829-6569 or send an email to JuricaSuchyMuseum@ben.edu to reserve your spot.
