LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Sept. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- From June through August, Local 215 of the Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters (IKORCC) volunteered their time and skills to the construction of a home for Habitat for Humanity of Lafayette. Local 215 has been volunteering with Habitat for Humanity since the 1980s.

Habitat for Humanity is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization that builds or renovates simple, decent houses for those in need. In Habitat for Humanity of Lafayette’s latest building project, 15-20 members from Local 215 volunteered throughout each phase of construction. They helped with the framing, shingling, installation of drywall and interior trim work.

“When we work on building a new home, many of the local trades come together and contribute whatever expertise they can offer,” said Doug Taylor, Executive Director at Habitat for Humanity of Lafayette. “The local carpenters union has demonstrated time after time that they have the will to help out those in our community who need access to affordable housing. We are very grateful for all of their hard work and their willingness to use their gifts and abilities to help another family.”

“We love giving back to our community,” said David Brettnacher, IKORCC Representative. “It means a lot to us when our contribution gives someone a better life, and in this case, an entire family. Serving the community is at the heart of IKORCC, and it really shows in the volunteer service of each of the carpenters who helped out with this project.”

For more information about this project, please contact David Brettnacher at dbrettnacher@ikorcc.com (mailto:wkarkoff@ikorcc.com).

The Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters represents more than 32,000 professional tradespeople in 43 locals in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and parts of West Virginia and Tennessee. A proud affiliate of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, which has a century-plus tradition of representing the best of the building trades, the council works in partnership with more than 30,000 contractors, helping them find the best possible talent for their projects. The hallmark of the regional council is three-fold: training, professionalism and partnerships for economic development.
