Recipients of 2014 Salute to Diversity Awards Named by Corp! Magazine Today

Sept. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Corp! Magazine, Michigan’s Everything Business magazine, believes that diversity and multiculturalism in business drives creativity and innovation. This will be Corp!'s 8th year celebrating companies, organizations and business leaders that have instilled diversity and multiculturalism into the very core of their business strategy. The publication honored those companies, organizations and leaders at a Salute to Diversity event held today at the MGM Grand Detroit.

Honorees demonstrated a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion, and contributions to diversity issues in business and the community. Corp! not only considered race and ethnicity, but also gender, religion and handicapping conditions as worthy of recognition.  This year’s winners—over 60 companies—will be profiled in the September 11, 2014 online version of the publication at www.corpmagazine.com. The diversity winners were selected in three categories and include:

·         Diversity Focused Company, defined as a company that clearly defines and monitors diversity success and demonstrates how diversity efforts add value to the company

·         Diversity Business Leader, an individual who is a diversity role model or top officer of a minority-owned business

·         Diversity Champion, a nonprofit or community organization that creates or promotes special programming, education or other initiatives that focuses on diversity

Top winners in each category were also announced today. Varnum LLP in Grand Rapids was named the top diversity focused company; Vivian Pickard, president of General Motors Foundation was named the top diversity business leader; andDetroit Wayne Mental Health Authority was named the top diversity champion.

The Salute to Diversity event featured breakfast, professional presentations and awards celebrations. The event included a presentation from Juliette Okotie-Eboh, senior vice president of public affairs from MGM Grand Detroit; Dr. Timothy Meyer,chancellor of Oakland Community College and a keynote address by Bing Goei, director of MichiganOffice for New Americans.

The program was sponsored by MGM Grand Detroit, ITC, Oakland Community College, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, DTE Energy, Lambert, Edwards and Associates, Leadership Oakland, Michigan Diversity Council, Mika Meyers Beckett and Jones PLC and Baker College.
