BUNNELL, Fla. - Sept. 13, 2014 - PRLog -- Nature Scapes, a landscape, garden center, and florist with a gift shop in Bunnell, is pleased to announce that they are now home to the Baiata Bird Sanctuary, in memory of Marylou Baiata.

“Since my mom’s funeral last month, we have been overwhelmed with support from the community,” said owner Chris Baiata. “My mom always cared for rescue animals on property, including tropical birds,” he added. Local bird expert Dr. Trudy Tappenhelped start the Baiata Bird Sanctuary, and donations just started coming in. The first check was for $1,000 with a letter from someone that wanted to donate in Marylou Baiata’s name, and several more have been received since then, totally up to approximately $3,900 so far.

The sanctuary is currently home to six exotic birds. Donations are being accepted for food, supplies, cages and more. They are seeking nine volunteers to help care for the birds and training will be provided. Volunteers screened in the porch of the sanctuary recently because raccoons and squirrels were stealing the bird’s food. The public is welcomed to view the birds and seminars are currently being held that teach about bird behavior, as well as what type of plants attract different birds. Hollingsworth Gallery is settling in to their new home at Nature Scapes, and visitors will have the opportunity to view bird painting, and recreate their preferred birds via painting classes.

Opened by Marylou Baiata in 1984, and now managed and owned by her son Chris Baiata and his wife Pasang, Nature Scapes has been designing, installing and maintaining landscaping for local homeowners and private communities for 30 years. They have a garden center, local florist, and gift shop on property. They offer a variety of native plants, flowers, garden supplies, pottery, trees and shrubs, and are well educated on the local city tree requirements. They consider themselves shepherds for the environment through the practice of native and sustainable Florida friendly landscaping, using organic techniques and the best quality of plants and garden amendments.

Nature Scapes added an Ecological Farm last year, focusing on education, organic growing practices and sustainable living for the local community. Their goal is to grow edible and ornamental plant varieties for sale using organic growing techniques. They recently revamped their company logo and are working on re-branding themselves as the premier nursery, landscape, and florist in Flagler County.

Nature Scapes is located at 313 Old Brick Road in Bunnell, FL, just three miles west of I-95 off East SR 100, past Town Center on the left. They are open Monday thru Saturday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
