TORONTO - Sept. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- The thought of starting a new grade, a new school or even starting school period can be pretty scary for kids. It can be daunting getting back into or starting a whole new routine.  School is tough enough with negotiating friendships, homework, activities, and everything in between. New routines can really throw a child off. What you don’t want to throw off is the special time the summer allowed you to take with your kids. The best part of summer is the time families invest with one another and the carefree attitudes most can parents take.

As children adjust to their new routine, try to schedule in some mom and me time.  It doesn’t have to be complicated and can take very little time to make a very huge impact.  Here are 7 things moms (or dads) and kids can do as part of their routine. WARNING: Hugs, Kisses, laughs and bonding will occur. Prepare to go over the allotted scheduled time.

1)      Go Geo-Caching- Pick a Saturday Morning get up bright and early and go geo-caching.   Dependent on her age make it like she’s finding a buried treasure each time.  Use your imagination.

2)      Help out a local shelter or food bank - Spend an hour volunteering your time. Even go to a senior’s home with some nice crafts for the elderly. It’s a great gift and can begin discussion on how to help others and how it feels to do a good deed.

3)      Go to the spa! - But not an adult spa. Kid friendly tween spas like Glama Gal’s let kids glam it up while offering icebreakers and talking points for moms and daughter. Create your own spa at home. Have your daughter do a make over on you. Let her do you your make up; let her do your hair, but you do the nails! Most of all let her have fun! Don’t forget to take lots of pictures to show everyone.

4)      Play Pinterest Roulette- Pull up the DIY and Crafts Section on your computer, close your eyes and point to the screen. The craft or DIY chosen is your “Craft of the Day”. You have no choice but to work on that craft. You have to go out get supplies and get crafting!

5)      Create Inspiration Boards- Get a whole bunch of old magazines and create a Mother Daughter Inspiration board of how you want to see your relationship flourish. Add your dreams, wishes and hopes for one another.

6)      Take time to Lunch – if you have a flexible work schedule, surprise your little one or your teen by picking them up for an hour to eat at their favorite local eatery. Its amazing how little time it will take to get them talking.

7)      Exercise together – if you’re going to do it, have the kids join you.  There are lots of free workouts online that kids can do with mom, just do at your own pace and help encourage each other through. You can get up a half hour earlier 2-3 times a week and not only get your workout in but get kids into the habit of exercising.
